Senior Session and Make-Up Guide.......

DJHones Photography Senior Session Guide

OUTFITS: Stripes, plaids and small busy prints do not show well on camera. Large plaids or prints are fine. Solids in earthy tones photograph much better! Please bring a variety of color to kick it up a bit. Vary the style, all one look (like t-shirts) gets boring. Vary the dress level by bringing some dressy, some medium and some casual. Cut-off jeans, jean skirts, dressy dresses with strappy high heels are all fine. Flip-flops for walking between shooting areas. We will have a changing tent to swap cloths in for the on-location shoot. We strive for a fashion flair in some of the shots we take. The same special lighting and some poses you might see in magazines. Remember, it is best to do one or two outfits that mom will like, then we can do the stuff YOU like. Our senior experience packages are unlimited changes which means the faster you change the more varied looks you will get. We suggest you bring double what you think we will do so we have more to pick from. Keep in mind a couple of outfits for your yearbook photo.....most schools do not allow low cut and strapless. Make sure that all of your outfits are complete. If you are in a suit or evening gown, don't forget your dress shoes. Group your outfits together on hangers as this will prevent wrinkling that shows up on your prints.

PROPS
: Bring props that are a large part of your life. Sports equipment, sports uniforms, musical instruments, pets, etc. Sunglasses, shoes, hats, scarves and your cars are also some popular props.
SUNBURN/TANNING:
Tan lines and peeling are not attractive in portraits. Avoid sunburn! Please don't over do your tan.
FRIENDS AND PARENTS: Friends or parents are welcome. They can be a help. However, if you can't relax in front of the camera with mom and dad watching, it may be best to have them wait. You can have a couple of shots with a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or sibling at no extra charge. We have special discounts if you bring a friend and make it a double shoot and your friend has their senior session at the same time as you!!

GIRLS:
There are certain things girls should be aware of and watch for in their presentation:

CLOTHING STYLES
Make sure your clothing flatters you. If you think you have large arms, be careful of sleeveless styles, they can make your arms look fuller. Sometimes it's a perspective thing since the arm is usually the closest item to the camera. Wild to mild. We don*t really tell you what you can and can not wear. A little sexy is OK, but don*t make ALL of your outfits that way. We photograph everything from prom dresses to shorts. What one person likes may not be appropriate for the next person. We will only take age appropriate photographs. Ask yourself the question: "How will I view these pictures in the years to come?" Only wear jewelry you want in your pictures.

MAKE-UP:
Refer to our MakeUpGuide for application tips. Makeup should only be slightly heavier than normal like you might wear in the evening. Mascara should be clean with no clumps. So if your mascara is old and clumpy, replace it first. Avoid makeup with *sparkles* in it. When you move, it makes a nice shimmer, but in a photo, where you are still, it creates a little white spot that almost looks like a zit. Also avoid makeup with an SPF in it. Although it is good for your skin in the sun, the SPF tends to create a shine. Summer shine can be controlled by using translucent powder that knocks out shine without adding additional color.

NAILS:
Have a clean application of nail polish for hands and feet....a neutral color is usually best.

GUYS:

SHAVING
Please make sure you are clean shaven. Have some facial hair mom hates, but you love? Do your casual shots first with it on, then bring a razor and shave it off for mom*s formals. Everyone is happy that way! Hair cuts should be done a few days or a week prior to your shoot to give it a chance to even out a bit and not have the "just cut" look.

We strive that your senior session with us is a fun experience for you. You can even bring your Ipod or MP3 player and we will play your tunes through your sound system when we go back to do the studio shots.
